Extension of Unemployment Compensation Benefits Announced

Posted by Kathy Speaker MacNett, Esq. on July 16, 2008

On July 1, 2008, Governor Rendell announced the start of Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits (EB). EB provides up to an additional thirteen (13) weeks of benefits to employees. There is no charge to employers for EB.

The Department of Labor and Industry also announced that it intended to contact, potentially eligible claimants by mid-July via mail with information and instructions on filing for EB compensation. The Department asks that claimants allow at least two (2) weeks for the delivery of the eligibility notices. Current UC claimants who have not received a notice by July 20, 2008, and believe they are eligible for EB can call their Unemployment Compensation Service Center. Additional information will also be available online at www.dli.state.pa.us.

The Department of Labor & Industry reminds claimants that the Department will never require claimants to share personal information via e-mail or text message.
